ASSISTANT PARATRANSIT SUPERINTENDENT |
SALARY: $4,958 - $6,327 per month (PERS 2.5% @ 55 - highest year)

JOB SUMMARY : Under general direction, plans, organizes and manages delivery of METRO's Demand response system; ensures Paratransit employees meet system performance and customer service standards, comply with Americans with Disabilities Act regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures; performs related duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES : Provides leadership, supervision and training; works with staff to develop and maintain a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment to achieve METRO's goals; communicates effectively and respectfully with people from different racial, ethnic, cultural groups, physical and intellectual abilities, lifestyle choices and ages; demonstrates ability to be sensitive to the needs of clients; participates in establishing operational plans and initiatives to meet department goals, objectives, and achieve performance results; insures METRO's Paratransit operation complies with American with Disabilities Act regulations; participates in developing and monitoring performance against annual departmental budget; provides advice and assistance on how to handle difficult, sensitive or potentially dangerous situations; ensures staff conformance with District rules and regulations including Drug and Alcohol Policy, and provisions of labor contracts and agreements; prepares and makes recommendations on training, disciplinary actions, documentation, and makes presentations at disciplinary hearings; participates in resolution of employee concerns and grievances; makes standard interpretations of labor contract provisions to supervisors and/or staff; evaluates employee attendance, performance and other issues; participates in interviews for Paratransit staff; prepares and maintains department records and reports including payroll, attendance and system performance statistics; responds to questions from the public in person, by telephone and in writing; attends committee and Board meetings; satisfactorily completes additional specialized training as required by METRO; be on call for accident investigation and response to urgent and/or sensitive situations 24x7; monitors in-field operations and communicates with maintenance and other departments as needed; operates METRO equipment for operator training, or in emergency situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear, both in person and by telphone, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and twist at the neck. Occasional lifting and overhead reaching is required. Visual abilities required include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of : Supervision and management; understanding functions of Paratransit program; working knowledge of standard office software (i.e. Microsoft office) systems; FTA rule 49 CFR, parts 37 and 38 preferred; California Class B license preferred; fluency in Spanish is preferred.
Ability to: Interact with clients and staff in a professional manner; demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills with staff, clients and public; train and monitor performance; learn new scheduling and dispatching technology; use two way radio, and effectively communicate with emergency personnel.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:Any combination of training and experience equivalent to two (2) years college level course work in management, business or related field. Experience that demonstrates substantial knowledge and abilities pertinent to the specific job functions may be substituted for the education requirement and two (2) years professional experience in transporation operations and two (2) years supervisory experience. This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing as required by FTA CFR 49.
